Unauthenticated root code execution via unsigned firmware package
Published Apr 18, 2025 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Remote code execution in Nautel VX Series transmitters VX SW 6.4.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. The upgrade handler accepts a crafted .tgz package without validating its digital signature, then runs the package's modified init.sh script as root. Network reachability to the AUI upgrade endpoint is sufficient; successful exploitation grants full transmitter control and can alter or interrupt broadcasts.
