Subscriber-level option tampering via unchecked AJAX handler
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 1, 2025
Missing authorization in a3rev Software Page View Count 2.8.0 through 2.8.4 allows remote authenticated users to alter site options. The yellow_message_dontshow() AJAX handler passes an attacker-supplied option key to update_option() with the value 1 without checking manage_options or restricting the key to an allowlist. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to enable sensitive Boolean settings, including registration, or set an option that triggers a site error and denies legitimate service.
