Remote command execution via unsanitized FOTA URL
Published Apr 4, 2025 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
OS command injection in Edimax BR-6478AC V3 firmware 1.0.15 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a FOTA URL. The FUN_00416e24 handler inserts the fota_url POST value into an sprintf-built command that the device executes without neutralizing shell syntax. The published CVSS assessment treats exploitation as unauthenticated, although the demonstrated request includes a web-interface cookie; successful exploitation runs commands in the router firmware context.
