Unauthenticated shortcode execution via unvalidated action value
Published Mar 29, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Code injection in David MacDonald So-Called Air Quotes 0.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary shortcodes without authentication. The public action in airquote.php passes an insufficiently validated request value to do_shortcode, causing WordPress to parse and run attacker-supplied shortcode syntax. Exposure requires the plugin to be active on a reachable WordPress site; the resulting effects depend on which shortcodes installed components register.
