Privilege escalation via replaceable agent executable
Published May 21, 2025 · Updated May 21, 2025
Privilege escalation in Blizzard Battle.net 2.40.0.15267 allows local users to execute code with elevated rights through agent.exe. Insecure permissions let a low-privileged user replace agent.exe in C:\ProgramData with a crafted shell script or executable. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a later launch or login by a higher-privileged user; successful execution grants that user's privileges.
