CVE-2025-27837Network attack vector

Arbitrary file access via truncated UTF-8 paths

Published Mar 25, 2025 · Updated Jun 23, 2026

Path traversal in Artifex Ghostscript before 10.05.0 allows attackers to access arbitrary files through malformed UTF-8 paths. The Windows path routines in base/gp_mswin.c and base/winrtsup.cpp fail to check gp_utf8_to_uint16 conversion errors, so invalid UTF-8 truncates a path before filesystem access. Exploitation requires the affected Windows code path to process a malformed filename, and resulting file access has the Ghostscript process privileges.
