Code execution via unchecked quoted-string copy
Published Mar 25, 2025 · Updated Mar 31, 2025
Heap-based buffer overflow in Assimp 5.4.3 allows attackers to execute code when a crafted MD5 model file is imported. AI_MD5_PARSE_STRING_IN_QUOTATION copies an unbounded quoted string into the fixed 1,024-byte aiString::data buffer and writes a terminator past it. A consuming application must import attacker-supplied MD5 content; successful exploitation corrupts process memory and can execute code.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
