CVE-2025-27551

Password recovery via predictable salt generation

Published Mar 26, 2025 · Updated Sep 5, 2025

Weak salt generation in DBIx::Class::EncodedColumn before 0.00032 allows local users to aid recovery of stored passwords. The Digest.pm encoder builds each missing salt by repeatedly indexing a 65-character pool with Perl rand(), which is unsuitable for security-sensitive randomness. Exploitation requires access to stored password hashes, and predictable salts reduce their resistance to offline password recovery.
