Application crash via uninitialized scene pointer dereference
Published Mar 25, 2025 · Updated Mar 25, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in the Assimp 5.4.3 LWS File Handler allows attackers to crash applications by supplying a malformed LWS file. LWSImporter::InternReadFile passes the scene to SceneCombiner::MergeScenes, whose CopyPtrArray allocates an uninitialized pointer array before Copy dereferences an element. Exploitation requires an application or user to process the crafted file; the public reproducer demonstrates an invalid-memory read and process crash.
