File validation bypass via premature placeholder restoration
Published Mar 5, 2025 · Updated Mar 5, 2025
File validation bypass in Laravel Framework before 11.44.1 and 12.0.0 through 12.1.0 allows remote attackers to submit disallowed files. Validator::validateUsingCustomRule restores protected wildcard placeholders before Rules\File queries the validator, so crafted array keys containing dots or asterisks can make the rule inspect the wrong field. An application is exposed only when it accepts attacker-controlled uploads through wildcard file or image rules; successful bypass admits content that the application intended to reject.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
