Application crash via unchecked CSM animation pointer
Published Mar 25, 2025 · Updated Mar 31, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in Open Asset Import Library Assimp 5.4.3's CSM File Handler allows attackers to crash applications via a malformed CSM file. InternReadFile dereferences na->mPositionKeys[0] without confirming that the animation pointer is non-null or that the position-key array contains an element. Exploitation requires an application to process an attacker-supplied CSM file; the demonstrated consequence is a null-pointer read and process crash, not code execution.
