Authenticated code execution via media path traversal
Published Mar 24, 2025 · Updated Apr 21, 2026
Path traversal in Kentico Xperience 13.0.178 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute server-side code via media upload. The CheckAndEnsureFilePath method appends attacker-controlled Media_File/FilePath data and an unchecked filename and extension to the media-library directory, allowing traversal into a web-served path. The Staging service must be enabled with username-and-password authentication and accept valid Staging credentials; uploaded server-side content then runs in the web application context.
