CVE-2025-27146Network attack vector

IRC command injection via unsanitized topic newlines

Published Feb 25, 2025 · Updated Feb 25, 2025

Command injection in Matrix.org matrix-appservice-irc before 3.0.4 allows remote authenticated users to execute IRC commands as themselves. BridgedClient.setTopic passed Matrix topic text containing carriage returns or newlines directly to the IRC client's send method, allowing injected IRC command delimiters. Exploitation requires permission to set a bridged room topic, and commands run only through the attacker's own puppeted IRC user.
