Email-address length disclosure via incorrect WKD padding
Published Mar 10, 2025 · Updated Apr 13, 2026
Information disclosure in Mozilla Thunderbird before 136 and ESR before 128.8 allows attackers to infer email-address length from WKD requests. Thunderbird applies an incorrect padding size to OpenPGP WKD key requests, leaving request length correlated with the requested address. Observation of the WKD network exchange is required; the disclosed value is the address length, not address contents or message data.
