External path control in Microsoft Defender for Endpoint for Linux before 101.25032.0010 allows local users to execute code as root. The root-run open_files.py helper's grab_java_version function follows /proc//exe for a process named java or javaw and executes that user-controlled binary to query its version. A local unprivileged account must run the crafted process with a Log4j-named file open; successful exploitation grants unrestricted root execution.
