Local privilege escalation via use-after-free
Published Apr 8, 2025 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Use-after-free in the RPC Endpoint Mapper Service in Microsoft Windows allows local users with low privileges to elevate privileges. Microsoft identifies the affected service but has not disclosed which routine frees an object and later dereferences it or what input triggers that sequence. An existing low-privilege account and local code execution are required; successful exploitation grants higher local privileges on the affected host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
