CVE-2025-26601

Local code execution via alarm trigger use-after-free

Published Feb 25, 2025 · Updated Jun 29, 2026

Use-after-free in X.Org Server and Xwayland before 21.1.16 and 24.1.6 allows local users to execute code via crafted alarm changes. The alarm-change path updates trigger fields sequentially, and an error makes SyncInitTrigger() return before registering the new sync object, leaving a reference that is used when the alarm fires. Access to an X display with low privileges is required; successful exploitation can execute code in the server context or interrupt the display service.
