CVE-2025-26594

Code execution via freed global root cursor

Published Feb 25, 2025 · Updated Jun 29, 2026

Use-after-free in X.Org X Server and Xwayland allows local users with X client access to crash the server or execute code. A client can free the root cursor while the server retains it in a global variable, leaving later cursor operations to dereference freed memory. The attacker must already be able to connect as a local X client; successful exploitation can corrupt the server process, disclose or alter its data, or interrupt the graphical session.
