CVE-2025-26168Public exploit

Root code execution via predictable temporary configuration

Published May 7, 2025 · Updated May 7, 2025

Privilege escalation in IXON VPN Client before 1.4.4 on Linux and macOS allows local users to execute code as root via a file race. The privileged client writes an OpenVPN configuration to the predictable /tmp/vpn_client_openvpn_configuration.ovpn path, allowing replacement with a FIFO that supplies script-security and tls-verify directives. Exploitation requires a low-privileged account and an authorized VPN connection that causes OpenVPN to consume the substituted configuration.
