Code execution via StyleElement prototype pollution
Published Mar 10, 2025 · Updated Mar 12, 2025
Prototype pollution in canvg 3.0.10 and earlier and 4.0.0 through 4.0.2 allows remote attackers to execute code via crafted CSS. The StyleElement constructor stores attacker-controlled CSS selectors in ordinary object-backed style maps, so a proto selector modifies the global prototype chain. Code execution requires a consuming application to pass untrusted CSS into StyleElement and later use polluted properties with sensitive APIs such as exec or eval.
