Memory exhaustion via unreleased MP4 processing objects
Published Feb 19, 2025 · Updated Feb 20, 2025
Memory leak in Bento4 1.6.0-641 allows local users to consume process memory by running mp4encrypt on a crafted MP4 file. Marlin initialization and MP4 processing leave newly allocated processor and parsed-atom objects unreleased on the error path. The demonstrated invocation leaks 792 bytes and requires a user to run the tool with the Marlin IPMP ACBC method; repeated processing can exhaust memory and interrupt the process.
