CVE-2025-25943Public exploit

Local code execution via Stz2 atom over-read

Published Feb 19, 2025 · Updated Feb 20, 2025

Heap buffer overflow in Bento4 1.6.0-641 allows local users to execute arbitrary code by processing a crafted MP4 with mp4fragment. AP4_Stz2Atom::AP4_Stz2Atom allocates a one-byte buffer, then AP4_BytesToUInt16BE reads two bytes from it while parsing the crafted Stz2 atom. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and invocation of mp4fragment on the malicious file; the demonstrated result is an out-of-bounds read and crash, while the CVE record reports arbitrary code execution.
