Root privilege escalation via forged password change
Published Mar 14, 2025 · Updated Mar 19, 2025
Cross-site request forgery in OpenPanel OpenAdmin 0.3.4 allows remote authenticated users to change the server root password. The Change Root Password function accepts a forged state-changing request under an existing OpenAdmin session without verifying the administrator intended it. Exploitation requires an authenticated administrator to interact with attacker-controlled content, after which the attacker can set the host root password and gain root access.
