Unauthenticated code execution via unchecked password copy
Published Feb 12, 2025 · Updated Mar 5, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in D-Link DIR-853 A1 firmware 1.20B07 allows remote attackers to execute code via AccountPassword. In prog.cgi's SetSysEmailSettings path, decrypted AccountPassword data is copied into a stack buffer by an unbounded loop without length validation. An unauthenticated network request is sufficient; successful exploitation can corrupt memory, crash the router, or seize control of the device.
