Physical root-shell access via unauthenticated ADB
Published Aug 26, 2025 · Updated Oct 22, 2025
Missing authentication in Kapsch TrafficCom RIS-9260 LEO firmware allows physically proximate attackers to obtain a root shell on its cellular modem. In builds 3.2.0.829.23, 3.8.0.1119.42, and 4.6.0.1211.28, default-enabled ADB accepts shell sessions without authentication and starts the modem shell as root. Reaching the flaw requires physical micro-USB access or local access to the RSU host and grants complete control of the modem.
