Administrator escalation via user-controlled membership role
Published Apr 14, 2025 · Updated Aug 27, 2025
Privilege escalation in WPEverest User Registration & Membership before 4.1.2 allows remote attackers to gain Administrator access. The public AJAX membership action passes the attacker-controlled role in members_data through prepare_members_data() without restricting it to an allowed role. The Membership Addon must be enabled, and the target account must not require confirmation; successful exploitation grants full WordPress administrative control.
