Account takeover via unchecked owner reassignment
Published Mar 6, 2025 · Updated Mar 7, 2025
Improper access control in Netsweeper Server 8.2.6 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to reassign account ownership. The account management interface marks the Account Owner field read-only only in the client, while the backend accepts a modified username without validating the requested reassignment. A low-privileged session and crafted form submission are sufficient to transfer an account to or from any user, enabling control of the reassigned account.
