Unauthenticated file read via ajax path traversal
Published Mar 20, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Arbitrary file read in Thom Stark File Away 3.9.9.0.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to read server files without authentication. The ajax() handler accepts a traversal path in its file parameter without a capability check, then returns a download URL protected only by reversible encryption. A page exposing the fileaway_stats nonce is enough to retrieve files readable by the WordPress process, including configuration data.
