Stored XSS via unescaped system messages
Published Feb 13, 2025 · Updated Jul 21, 2025
Stored XSS in Lakeus 1.0.8 through 1.3.0 allows remote authenticated users with editinterface rights to execute script in users' browsers. SkinLakeus.php renders lakeus-footermessage with plain() inside repository-link HTML, while themeDesigner.js concatenates mw.message values into HTML without escaped(). Exploitation requires high-privilege message-editing rights; the footer reaches all users only when the repository link is enabled, while Theme Designer messages reach users who enable that feature.
