Authentication bypass and crash via URL regex matching
Published Feb 12, 2025 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Authentication bypass in advplyr Audiobookshelf 2.17.0 through 2.19.0 allows remote attackers to read protected data or crash the server. Auth.authNotNeeded tests unanchored public-route patterns against req.originalUrl, so a public substring in a query parameter skips authentication middleware. No account or user interaction is required; exposed instances can disclose protected endpoint data or terminate when handlers dereference the missing req.user object.
