Unauthenticated root command execution via file parameter

OS command injection in MiniDVBLinux 5.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands as root via its web interface. The unauthenticated about page passes the file parameter into a shell command, enabling $() or backtick command substitution before the file is read. No login is required; a crafted HTTP request can take full control of the Linux recorder, and public exploit code demonstrates command output retrieval.
