Unauthorized group-chat membership via unchecked recipient preference
Published Mar 26, 2025 · Updated Mar 26, 2025
Missing authorization in Discourse stable before 3.3.4 and beta before 3.4.0.beta5 allows remote authenticated users to add others to group chats. The group direct-message creation path inserted chat-channel memberships without enforcing each recipient's disabled direct-message preference. A logged-in user able to create a group direct message can override another user's messaging choice, although disabling chat blocks new group-chat membership.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
