Local privilege escalation via insecure installation ACLs
Published May 23, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026
Improper access control in Tenable Network Monitor before 6.5.1 allows local users to escalate privileges on Windows hosts. The installer fails to apply secure ACLs to subdirectories when a non-default program location is selected, leaving them writable by regular users. Exploitation requires an affected non-default installation whose directories were not secured, and successful abuse grants elevated privileges.
