CVE-2025-24789

Local privilege escalation via xdg-open path hijacking

Published Jan 29, 2025 · Updated Feb 12, 2025

Untrusted search path handling in Snowflake JDBC Driver 3.2.3 through 3.21.0 allows local users to gain the driver process's privileges. SessionUtilExternalBrowser.openBrowser invokes xdg-open by name when EXTERNALBROWSER is selected on Windows, so executable resolution follows %PATH%. A local user who can write to a searched directory can plant a malicious xdg-open executable that runs when a higher-privileged process starts browser-based SSO.
