SMTP credential disclosure via upstream error logging
Published Jan 27, 2025 · Updated Feb 12, 2025
Information disclosure in OTRS and OTRS Community Edition allows local users to obtain the configured SMTP password through error output. Certain upstream-library errors pass the credential into the application log mechanism and email sent to the system administrator. The path is reachable only when an affected release uses an SMTP module instead of sendmail, and exposure is limited to the SMTP credential.
