Privilege escalation via unrestricted image uploads
Published Feb 5, 2025 · Updated Feb 5, 2025
Stored XSS in CKAN before 2.10.7 and 2.11.0 through 2.11.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in an administrator's browser. The profile and group image uploader accepts attacker-controlled content without consistently enforcing configured MIME types or a safe filename extension. Exploitation requires a registered account and an administrator to open the file, after which the script can issue requests through the administrator's session and alter site privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
