Local root escalation via incorrect permissions
Published Jan 27, 2025 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Incorrect permissions in Apple iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS allow local users to gain root privileges through a malicious app. Apple identifies Kernel on every platform and StorageKit on macOS, but has not published which permission or operation accepts access that should be restricted. Affected releases are iOS and iPadOS before 18.3, macOS before 15.3, tvOS before 18.3, and watchOS before 11.3; local app execution is required.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
