CVE-2025-24039

Local privilege escalation

Published Feb 11, 2025 · Updated Feb 13, 2026

Elevation of privilege in Microsoft Visual Studio Code before 1.97.1 allows local users to gain elevated privileges after user interaction. Microsoft identifies an uncontrolled search path element but has not published the affected component, searched resource, or unsafe path operation. Exploitation requires existing low-privilege local access and user interaction; successful exploitation grants control within the unchanged security scope.
