CVE-2025-24014Public exploit

Process crash via unchecked silent-mode redraw

Published Jan 20, 2025 · Updated Mar 14, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in Vim before 9.1.1043 allows local users to crash the editor by feeding binary input in silent Ex mode. gui_do_scroll calls updateWindow during scrolling without checking whether the unallocated ScreenLines display pointer is null, so win_line writes to address zero. Exploitation requires deliberate local invocation with crafted data and user interaction; the demonstrated consequence is a Vim process crash.
