Interpreter crash via unchecked export type index
Published Mar 17, 2025 · Updated Mar 17, 2025
Heap-buffer overflow in WABT 1.0.36 allows remote attackers to crash an interpreter process via a crafted WebAssembly module. BinaryReaderInterp::OnExport uses a malformed export item_index to subscript a type vector and calls Clone() on the out-of-bounds element, causing an invalid heap read. A user or service must cause the interpreter reader to process the file; the demonstrated consequence is a segmentation fault, not code execution.
