CVE-2025-23207Network attack vector

Script execution via unchecked \htmlData attribute names

Published Jan 17, 2025 · Updated Jan 17, 2025

Cross-site scripting in KaTeX 0.12.0 through 0.16.20 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript via crafted \htmlData input. The DOM-tree toMarkup serializer appends \htmlData-derived attribute names to markup without rejecting HTML delimiter or control characters. Exploitation requires an application to render attacker-controlled mathematics with renderToString while the trust option permits \htmlData, and the resulting HTML must reach a browser.
