CVE-2025-23147

Kernel panic via uninitialized IBI dereference

Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel allows local users to trigger a kernel panic through asynchronous I3C IBI delivery. The i3c_master_queue_ibi() path dereferences dev->ibi when an I3C target sends an IBI before its driver has initialized that pointer. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and compatible I3C activity during the probe race; the documented consequence is a system crash.
