Service interruption via unlocked backlight teardown
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Improper locking in the Linux kernel led_bl driver allows local users to interrupt service during backlight device removal. led_bl_remove() calls led_sysfs_disable() without holding the required led_access lock, allowing led_sysfs_enable() to run during teardown without its locking invariant. Triggering the fault requires local low-privileged access and removal of an LED-backed backlight device; no data access or modification is reported.
