Root code execution via unvalidated TLS certificates
Published Feb 5, 2025 · Updated Mar 13, 2025
Improper certificate validation in Veeam Updater allows man-in-the-middle attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected backup appliances. The component accepts an untrusted TLS certificate while retrieving updates, allowing intercepted traffic to substitute attacker-controlled update content. An attacker must control the update network path; successful code execution runs with root-level permissions on the appliance server.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
