CVE-2025-23086Network attack vector

Download origin spoofing via cross-origin iframe confusion

Published Jan 21, 2025 · Updated Mar 22, 2025

Origin spoofing in Brave Browser 1.70.x through 1.73.x allows remote attackers to mislabel download origins in file dialogs. The browser incorrectly derives the initiating origin for downloads started from cross-origin iframes, letting a malicious page redirected through a trusted site's open redirector display that trusted origin. Exploitation requires user interaction with the download prompt and a usable open redirect on a trusted site; the result is deceptive provenance, not silent code execution.
