Parent-directory access via trailing-separator path parsing
Published Feb 4, 2026 · Updated Feb 4, 2026
Relative path traversal in Go os before 1.23.9 and 1.24.0-0 through 1.24.2 allows local users to open an os.Root parent directory. splitPathInRoot retained trailing separators on the final component, while doInRoot checked ".." before considering those separators. A caller must pass an attacker-controlled name ending in "../"; the escape opens only the parent directory itself, not its files or higher ancestors.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=0 <1.23.9
