SYSTEM code execution via writable OpenSSL configuration
Published May 22, 2025 · Updated May 22, 2025
Uncontrolled search path in Forcepoint F1E before 25.05 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM through a crafted OpenSSL configuration. On Windows, EndPointClassifier.exe runs as SYSTEM and loads C:\usr\local\ssl\openssl.cnf from a location that ordinary users can create and populate. A reboot or privileged service restart must occur before the attacker's configured DLL loads with SYSTEM privileges.
