CVE-2025-22620Public exploit

Local file modification via umask-bypassing chmod

Published Jan 20, 2025 · Updated Jan 21, 2025

Improper file permissions in GitoxideLabs gitoxide before 0.17.0 allow local users to modify executable worktree files. In gix_worktree_state::checkout, checkout::entry::finalize_entry passes mode 0777 to set_permissions after file creation, so the process umask cannot remove group and other write bits. Exploitation requires a Unix-like host, an executable repository file, the nonexclusive checkout path, and another account able to traverse the worktree.
