CVE-2025-22240

File deletion via GitFS environment path traversal

Published Jun 13, 2025 · Updated Jun 13, 2025

Path traversal in Salt 3006 before 3006.12 and 3007 before 3007.4 allows local users to delete files writable by the master process. GitFS.find_file joins the unvalidated tgt_env value into cache destinations, allowing parent-directory segments to escape the intended cache roots. Exploitation requires high privileges and user interaction; deletion remains limited to files writable by the salt-master process.
