Browser script execution via unescaped worksheet titles
Published Jan 20, 2025 · Updated Jan 21, 2025
XSS in affected PhpSpreadsheet releases allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript through a crafted multi-sheet XLSX file. Html::generateNavigation concatenates each worksheet title directly into anchor text without HTML encoding, so title markup becomes executable output. Exploitation requires an application to load the attacker-controlled workbook, render all sheets as HTML, and present the result to a user, enabling script execution in the user's browser context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
